Spirit of Ardnamurchan (2016)

A series of ceramic panels derived from studies undertaken on the Ardnamurchan peninsular in Scotland in an attempt to capture some of its qualities.

As shown in the "Spirit of Place" panels my work is now moving away from the reduction fired stoneware that I have been producing for 22 years and I am exploring the possibilities of painting with earthenware glazes on a reduction fired stoneware base. The results are far more colourful and a lot more painterly in quality. I have been influenced in this respect by the paintings of Peter Lanyon and Jeremy Gardiner whose work I greatly admire. As stated in my blog, I have been absorbing the imagery which I find exciting and the sense of place overwhelmingly spiritual.
