Motifs and images have been derived from rocks and crags, strata and erosion, dry stone walls, lichen covered surfaces, pattern and texture on the landscape, remnants of history and prehistory, accidental and deliberate marks made by man, solidity, massiveness, great weight and scale, monumental serenity, the rhythm of moving water in streams and waterfalls - flow, speed, splashing, noise and silence. Recent pieces have become more introspective and philosophical and contain a narrative derived from an increasing interest in the secrets that the landscape hides. Thus an interest in Celtic Mytholoigy, especially the stories surrounding Sgathaich and Cu Chulainn, in the exploits of the Andartes on Crete, the Prehistoric Rock Art found in Northumberland, and the First World War trenches at Ypres influence the choice of imagery and the way it is controlled
