A group of dedicated volunteers sought funding to establish the Newbiggin Maritime Centre and eventually succeeded in acquiring £2.8 million with which the Centre was built. It opened to the public in 2011. It was part of a wider regeneration programme which sought to re-establish Newbiggin as the vibrant seaside town and tourist attraction it had once been in the 50's. This series of work derives from personal experiences that developed during the setting up and subsequent early organisation of Newbiggin Maritime Centre in which I was closely involved as a board member and as a volunteer.
